Capturing and Creating Content During COVID-19
April 30, 2020
WE’VE NEVER BEEN VERY GOOD AT HITTING THE PAUSE BUTTON.
After all, just look at our name. Here at SixSpeed, the safety of our clients, crews and shooters has always been our top priority—and it always will be. And even though things might look a little different from a production standpoint in the age of COVID-19, we still have the capabilities to shoot remotely and create meaningful content, all while prioritizing the safety of everyone involved.
PREPARED FOR SUCCESS.
SHOOT PREP + PRE-PRODUCTION PROCESS
Traditionally, the majority of our shoot preparation and pre-production planning has taken place through phone calls and email. We’re continuing this approach while also incorporating additional pre-pro meetings via Zoom to ensure clients are fully briefed prior to production. Our crews are spending more time than ever making sure every detail is buttoned up before heading onsite. The better we’re prepared, the more efficient we’ll be.
STAYING CONNECTED FROM A DISTANCE.
COMPREHENSIVE REMOTE CAPABILITIES
While we can’t have everyone in the same place at the same time, a combination of skilled partners and advanced technology allow for an equally smooth shooting process.
- Ability to shoot in-studio or on-location
- Group video conference services are used for client and shooter feedback, providing the ability to approve images and raw footage in real time
- Clients can participate in shoots and engage with crews via Zoom or Google Hangouts
- Screen-sharing services allow for image monitoring/review and immediate file delivery
- Certain studios use proprietary software that allows access to the camera feed and set through wireless tethering
- Talent, hair and makeup approvals can be provided prior to shooting
ADDITIONAL SAFETY PRECAUTION.
By following the CDC guidelines, governmental regulations and other recommended best practices, we’ll ensure the entire team stays safe from start to wrap.
- Every crew member will be provided with gloves, masks, hand sanitizer and Clorox wipes for the duration of the shoot
- All crew members (except talent) will be asked to wear gloves and masks at all times
- Production crews and talent will be sourced locally and must confirm regular body temperature and absence of symptoms before coming on set
- Craft services will be limited: only bottled water, coffee in disposable cups and to-go food in individual containers will be provided onsite
SMALL CREWS, BIG RESULTS.
The SixSpeed team is currently working with lean crews and taking additional precautions to ensure everyone is healthy before stepping on set. We’ve executed successful shoots with just two-person crews and have kept sets to a maximum of 10 people. We’ve also made sure to keep safe social-distancing measures in place throughout the duration of productions with minimal disruption.
CHOOSING TALENT WISELY.
When it comes to safe talent selection, our producers have a large pool of resources to select from—helping us ensure that anyone chosen is healthy and asymptomatic. We have relationships with independent talent coordinators and agencies that can organize digital castings as needed. As an added precaution, we can ask talent to arrive on set with their own wardrobe with hair and makeup ready to go.
ALL GEARED UP.
Equipment is still available for rent if we need anything outside of our normal gear. We also have access to our specialty off-road vehicles, shooting boats and camera cars that can be used to safely shoot vehicle-to-vehicle without the need for person-to-person interaction. Crews are taking additional measures to sanitize equipment both during and after shoots. Post-production is currently taking place remotely with editors and creative teams working closely together from home. This process has proven effective during stay-at-home orders and will continue to remain in place for the foreseeable future.
SOLID STUDIO SUBSTITUTES.
We have a variety of local studio options in Minneapolis, but can rent remote spaces across the country as needed. Some of our shooters are also able to shoot from home and have access to in-home studios. For content creation without the need for talent and for smaller tabletop projects, we are building setups in garages, and other safe, secure and creative locations.
LOCATION SHOOT CAPABILITIES
We have relationships with photographers and DPs across the country who are willing and able to shoot on-location. These shoots are considered and planned on a state-by-state basis as we make sure to follow social distancing guidelines and current stay-at-home orders.
CGI ON STANDBY.
CGI + BACKGROUND PLATES
We have the option to shoot background plates and implement CGI techniques for any product photography. Our retouching team has a CGI specialist who can make just about any digitally fabricated object look accurate and realistic. By using 360º image stitching software and HDRI domes, we can easily match and paste reflections and light on all parts of a product.
STOCKED UP ON STOCK.
STOCK IMAGE CREATION
We have a variety of images that are available for licensing. We also have photographers that are willing to shoot on spec for stock upon client request.
NEED SOMETHING ELSE?
If you have a specific need or request, don’t hesitate to get in touch with our team. We’ll figure out a way to make it happen.
